Govardhanram Tripathi

Shri. Govardhanram Tripathi was born on 20th October, 1855 in Nadiyad in a Nagar family on the day of Vijaya Dashmi.
In 1875, he completed his BA and decided to do his LLB, however he vowed never to work under anybody and started his own practice with Mumbai High Court. In 1883 he completed his LLB and started his practice in 1884.
At the young age of 43 he retired and settled in his birth town to contribute to the world of Gujarati Literature and to also devote his time in 'Samaj Seva'.  

During the period he wrote immensely...  and soon got to be known as Gujarat's number one writer, thinker, poet and philosopher. He wrote in varied styles but Govardhanram Tripathi became one of the greatest savants of India, marked an important milestone in the history of Gujarati Literature with his magnum opus 'Saraswatichandra'. He had equal command on English also hence he wrote his very famous 'Scrap Book'.

In 1887 'Saraswatichandra' -1 got published followed by volume 2, 3 and 4 in 1892, 1898 and 1901 respectively.

He also took active part in the Congress during 1902; in 1905 he was elected as the head of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad. He also wrote various articles and essays in the papers 'Vasant' and 'Samalochak' which were later published as books.

Shri. Govardhanram Tripathi died in Mumbai, in the evening of 4th January 1907.
